Japanese game voice-over: from casting to delivery

Keep the client, director, and performers working from the same character briefs, scripts, and recording plan, with support from partner studios in Japan.

Turn character requirements into a casting brief

Age, personality, vocal qualities, emotional range and performance demands guide casting. Consider budget and availability alongside suitability. Before confirming talent, review relevant public information, verify events and responses, and share partnership risks for the client’s decision.

Prepare a script for performance and studio use

Adapt Japanese dialogue to character relationships, forms of address and scene tone. Prepare name readings, intensity notes for combat lines, and adjacent dialogue or video for story scenes. Consistent line IDs and version records reduce repeated clarification during recording.

InputApproved audio and delivery requirements
Step 07Delivery
OutputAudio package, script and version records

Keep each audio file traceable.

Check filenames, audio specifications, and script versions before delivery. Plan any pickups based on the cause of the issue, script changes, and agreed scope.

Issues go back for script changes or additional recording, then the revised audio is checked again.

Carry direction and specifications through delivery

Coordinate Japanese partner studios around recording volume and availability. Agree direction notes, client feedback arrangements, file formats and naming before recording. Review language, performance and technical quality afterward; use the same character and audio references for pickups and deliver a file manifest with version information.
